What is the Zkittlez strain?
The Zkittlez strain, now often called The Original Z, is a cannabis hybrid known for a sweet fruit aroma. Its name also appears on terpene blends, where it describes an aromatic profile rather than a bottle of cannabis flower.
The original cultivar is associated with Terp Hogz and 3rd Gen Family. Leafly's history of The Original Z describes an alleged Grape Ape and Grapefruit lineage with an undisclosed third parent, and a cut passed through growers before it became widely known. Treat that as a reported history, rather than a fully verified pedigree for every product carrying the name.
A cannabis strain and a terpene blend are different things. Terpenes provide aroma; cannabinoids such as THC are separate compounds. Start with our plain guide to terpenes if those terms are new to you.
Zkittlez terpene profile
A useful Zkittlez terpene profile identifies the product and batch that were tested. A flower sample, a cannabis-derived terpene extract and a botanical blend can have different proportions, even when the same strain name appears on all three.
Leafly lists caryophyllene, linalool and humulene in its Original Z strain profile. Those are reference data about cannabis products represented in that database. They are not measurements of Owls Oil's Zkittles terpenes.
What does Zkittlez taste and smell like?
Published descriptions centre on grape and grapefruit, with berry notes and a tropical fruit character. Earthy or peppery notes can sit underneath that fruit aroma. These descriptions help explain the strain's reputation; they are not a tasting guarantee for every extraction or blend.
Nor can a flavour description reveal a complete chemical profile. A citrus note does not prove that limonene is the dominant terpene, and a fruity name does not establish a particular percentage of myrcene. The batch report is the evidence for those claims.
How Zkittlez is usually described
Zkittlez is generally described as an indica-leaning hybrid. Leafly's user reports commonly mention feeling relaxed, sleepy or hungry; Weedmaps also records reports of relaxation and happiness. These are accounts of using the cannabis strain, not clinical findings or promises about an individual experience. See the Weedmaps strain record for its attributed reports.
Terpenes alone do not contain cannabinoids or reproduce the strain's effects. An isolated aromatic blend should not be marketed as delivering a Zkittlez high. A cannabis-derived extract also needs its own testing before making a claim about cannabinoid residues.
Zkittlez variants
Most names below refer to crosses involving Zkittlez or Original Z, rather than different sizes of the same terpene bottle. Breeders can release different versions under similar names, so the breeder's description matters.
| Variant | Published cross or description | Flavour notes reported by the source |
|---|---|---|
| Watermelon Zkittlez / Watermelon Z | Watermelon × Original Z, Barney's Farm version | Watermelon, grape and sweet berries |
| Gorilla Zkittlez / Gorilla Z | GG4 × Original Z, Barney's Farm version | Fruit, berries and pine |
| Blue Zkittlez | Blue Diamond × Zkittlez, commonly attributed to Dying Breed Seeds | Berries and citrus, with earthy or diesel notes |
| Zkittlez Cake | Wedding Cake × Zkittlez in the Inseedious Seeds version listed by Sanya Sativa | Supplier descriptions differ; check the particular breeder and batch |
| Zkittlez Pie / Z Pie | Z × Georgia Pie, Raw Genetics version | Sweet fruit with gassy undertones |
Watermelon Zkittlez
Barney's Farm now calls its version Watermelon Z and lists Watermelon crossed with Original Z. Its published strain description mentions watermelon and grape flavour, with berry and tropical fruit aromas. That describes its cultivar, not an Owls Oil formulation.
Gorilla Zkittlez
Barney's Farm lists Gorilla Z as GG4 crossed with Original Z. Its strain specification describes fruit, berries and pine. We use GG4 for the parent in this guide rather than presenting a household adhesive brand as a cannabis product name. The autoflower version has an additional parent and should not be treated as the identical cross.
Blue Zkittlez
Blue Zkittlez is commonly recorded as Blue Diamond crossed with Zkittlez and attributed to Dying Breed Seeds. CannaConnection's strain record describes berries and citrus with earthy and diesel notes. It is a distinct cross, not simply a blue-labelled version of the original.
Zkittlez Cake
Names containing “Cake” need particular care because multiple breeders use them. Sanya Sativa's listing of the Inseedious Seeds version gives Wedding Cake crossed with Zkittlez. That named example does not establish the pedigree or flavour of every product sold as Zkittlez Cake.
Zkittlez Pie
Raw Genetics lists Z Pie as Z crossed with Georgia Pie, with sweet and gassy aroma descriptions. Check whether a listing means that specific release before treating “Zkittlez Pie” and “Z Pie” as interchangeable.
Rainbow, Pink, Gelato and Lemon Zkittlez are further names found in strain listings. They should not be grouped under one assumed cross or terpene formula. This guide focuses on named versions for which a source can be identified.
Zkittlez terpenes from Owls Oil
Owls Oil lists this profile as Zkittles in both terpene ranges. The links below select that flavour directly, rather than opening the product with its default strain selected.
Cannabis-derived terpenes are extracted from cannabis plants. Botanical blends use aromatic compounds sourced from other plants to construct a profile. The source does not establish that one is safer or guarantee that their compositions match. Read the CDT, HDT and botanical explanation in our terpene guide.

FAQs
What terpenes are in Zkittlez?
Leafly's Original Z strain profile lists caryophyllene, linalool and humulene. The relative amounts vary between plants and terpene formulations, so the strain name does not establish a fixed recipe or a product-specific percentage.
Is Zkittlez indica or sativa?
Zkittlez, also called The Original Z, is usually described as an indica-leaning hybrid. That classification describes the cannabis strain and does not predict the effects of an isolated terpene blend.
Why is Zkittlez spelled with a Z?
It is a historical strain name that echoed a well-known sweets brand. Terp Hogz adopted The Original Z name following a 2023 trademark settlement. The strain name does not imply a connection with the sweets manufacturer.
Are Zkittlez terpenes legal in the UK and Ireland?
A strain name cannot establish a product's legal status. Pure terpene aroma compounds are different from controlled cannabinoids, but cannabis-derived products need checks for their actual composition and any cannabinoid residues. Intended use, labelling and import requirements also matter; a terpene label is not proof that every product is lawful.
For legal context, the UK Home Office factsheet addresses cannabis and controlled cannabinoids. Ireland's HPRA controlled-drug licensing guidance covers controlled-drug activities. Neither is a blanket approval of a strain-labelled terpene product.
